Description

The adjustable Ear Saver serves two important functions:

  1. Relieves pressure on the ears for those who must wear their Surgical or N95/KN95 Face Mask for prolonged periods.
  2. Allows the Face Mask to fit securely allowing favorable fit testing results for those with various facial structures and sizes.

Compared to pointed/arrow models, it won’t get caught in hair.

Donning (Putting mask on)

Before use, visually inspect the extension strap for signs for any signs of damage (e.g. cracks, discolorations). If the strap is damaged, dispose of it and use a new one.

  1. Hold the Ear Saver in one hand. Place one of the mask earloops through the Ear Saver hooks. Grab the other earloop with the other hand.
  2. With colored or printed side facing out, and the nose wire at the top, position the mask over your nose and mouth.
  3. Position the extension strap at the back of your head.
  4. Attached the ear loop in your other hand to a set of hooks on the Ear Saver.
  5. If necessary, move the earloops to adjust the tension
  6. Adjust the positioning of the mask and the nose bridge as usual.

Adjusting Size

If the clip is too long, you can carefully use a pair of scissors or shears to cut off the hooks that aren’t required. Round the edges, as they can otherwise be sharp.

This design has undergone review in a clinical setting and has been found appropriate by NIH/NIAID when fabricated with the printer type and materials specified. Model ID: 3DPX-013410

This term is not a formal designation in classifying PPE, but is used it here to indicate when a design is appropriate for healthcare workers in contact with patients who have tested positive or show symptoms of COVID-19. Devices in this category may have different requirements and classification by the FDA. For more information on this designation, please visit the NIH 3D Print Exchange: COVID 3D TRUST: Device Categories.

Designs with Clinical Use status have been 3D printed and evaluated in a clinical setting. It is important to note that this applies only when they are manufactured with the printer types and materials specified. Not all devices require specific approval by the FDA, but there are guidelines for manufacturing and labeling that apply. They should be produced according to best practices for quality in the printing process and in selection of materials, and follow instructions provided with each design carefully through the process.

All Ear Savers are perfectly functional, but are by no means perfect.

These 3D-printed Prototype Ear Savers may have some imperfections.  Please only order this item only if you don’t mind to receive items with minor imperfections from the 3D printing process.
